Graduate-Student Led Seminar Courses

Take one of our dynamic, one-credit MSCI 398 courses, taught by VIMS PhD students!

Each semester we offer up to three MSCI 398 seminar courses taught by senior PhD students in the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences. These small (15 student) courses generally meet once per week on the W&M Williamsburg Campus, and have no prerequisites: they are open to any W&M student at any level, in any major, minor, or intended discipline of study.

MSCI 398s are some of the most popular courses in Coastal & Marine Sciences, and generally follow topics of interest to the graduate students, sometimes (but not always!) related to their research. Past topics have included:

  • Building Coastal Carbon Budgets
