The Batten School & VIMS campus will be closed on Monday, March 15 due to the National Weather Service prediction for severe weather including periods of rain, damaging winds and the potential for tornadoes.

Earth System Modeling

With funding from US Department of Energy (DoE), we are studying the complex earth system under past and future changes.  The fully coupled global atmosphere-ocean-ice-land model is from the DoE’s MPAS framework (Model for Prediction Across Scales).  We are developing the nearshore component of the MPAS-Ocean in order to bridge gaps between global ocean and estuaries and rivers.
