Other Ways to Get Involved in Coastal & Marine Sciences
Marine Science Society
Students interested in marine science, whether enrolled in the major, the minor, or neither, are strongly encouraged to join the Marine Science Society (MSS), one of William & Mary's student organizations. The MSS connects students who are passionate and curious about marine science, introduces them to resources in marine science, and promotes a welcoming atmosphere for learning and discussion about some of the environmental problems affecting the ocean today. In past years the club has organized beach picnics, kayaking trips, a VIMS tour, and various volunteering opportunities.
For more information, follow the MSS on Instagram or join the MSS on TribeLink.
Aquaculture Collective (AquaCo)
AquaCo is the joint undergraduate and graduate student subunit of the United States Aquaculture Society at VIMS. Established in the fall of 2023, the purpose of AquaCo is to engage in diverse initiatives that offer educational opportunities, professional development, and social activities for enhancing aquaculture. Throughout the academic year, AquaCo hosts member meetings that include activities such as trivia and cookie decorating. Additionally, AquaCo collaborates with other chapter organizations at VIMS such as the Society of Women in Marine Science to host events that bridge various sectors of marine science to educate broader audiences. AquaCo strives to help connect the W&M undergraduate community to opportunities for learning about and becoming involved with aquaculture.
