Microplastics Sampling Protocol
Microbial and microplastic sampling
- Record - time and speed or walking along boat 5 minutes
- Tow 180 micron net
- Wash down through the #120 4" sieve
- Scrape sieve and transfer to 5ml glass vials - label location & date
- Wash spatula and sieve dry in sun
Plastic water column sample
- 1 liter dark bottle - rinse 3 times
- Fill to the top and label seal with electrical tape - location & date
Beach plastic sampling
- Collect 3- one gallon buckets of beach sand (top ~1' of sand)
- Sieve through large 1 mm sieve
- Put in zip lock baggie and label - location & date
