Section for Coastal & Ocean Processes
Connecting global trends and local drivers to understand and address environmental change.
The Section for Coastal and Ocean Processes embraces a systems-level approach to studying coastal processes and ecology that stretches from coastal watersheds to open oceans and integrates diverse disciplines including biogeochemistry, physical oceanography, landscape dynamics, marine and coastal geology, and population/community ecology.
Courtney K. Harris, Section Chair
Courtney K. Harris has been with the Batten School & VIMS since 2001 and became the Section Chair for Coastal & Ocean Processes in 2023. Harris conducts research directed at improving our ability to quantify and predict sediment transport on continental shelves and within estuaries over a variety of temporal and spatial scales. She has been involved in interdisciplinary projects that considered interactions between shelf sediment transport and small scale stratigraphy, sediment budgets, geochemistry, coastal oceanography, and climatology.
