Broodstock Offerings
ABC Selective Breeding Lines (Broodstock Program)
The Aquaculture Genetics & Breeding Technology Center (ABC) develops and maintains a diverse portfolio of selectively bred oyster lines designed to meet the needs of a wide range of growing environments and production goals. Our broodstock lines are the result of decades of research combining traditional mass selection and advanced family-based breeding approaches.
ABC lines are developed from both wild and improved stocks and are rigorously selected under real-world conditions to enhance key performance traits. These include disease resistance, high survival, rapid growth, improved meat yield, and desirable shell characteristics. By targeting specific salinity regimes—from low (8–15 ppt) to moderate (18–23 ppt)—our lines allow growers to match genetics to their site conditions for optimal performance.
Our program includes both diploid (2N) and tetraploid (4N) broodstock. Diploid lines are bred for consistent field performance and resilience, while tetraploid lines are developed to support triploid (3N) production, with selection focused on enhancing growth and survival in commercial settings.
Through a combination of long-term selection, performance testing, and genetic improvement, ABC broodstock provides the aquaculture industry with reliable, high-quality seedstock foundations tailored to diverse environmental conditions and production strategies.
