William & Mary - Information & Technology Resources

  • Activate your W&M Username: Your account provides access to Banner, Blackboard, and your W&M email (through Outlook). Access these services via icons found on myW&M. For activation purposes, you will enter your W&M student ID number (begins with 93) and your application email address. Both can be found in your admission offer letter. Any W&M alumni who graduated more than one year ago will need to reactivate their W&M email accounts. 
  • W&M Duo Two-Factor Authentication: Duo is W&M's two-factor authentication service. It uses your W&M credentials plus a secondary authentication method to confirm your identity. Everyone at W&M is required to use Duo to access most W&M systems. 
  • W&M Email Account: Access Outlook through myW&M. Use your W&M username and password to log in. Your W&M email address will be your W&M username + @wm.edu. Official communications will be sent to your W&M e-mail address. If you need assistance, please contact the W&M Technology Support Center or call (757) 221-HELP (4357).
  • VIMS Email Account: VIMS uses an Outlook account separate from W&M to provide you with an @vims.edu email address. Email account information will be sent directly to you prior to New Student Orientation. Upon matriculation, almost all official communications from the Batten School & VIMS will be sent to your VIMS email address and it should be your primary address throughout your time at VIMS. All students are strongly encouraged to have their W&M email forwarded to their VIMS email account, as official communication from W&M will be sent to your W&M email address.

Additional Online Resources

  • GroupMe: Connect with your incoming classmates by joining the Batten School & VIMS 2025-26 private chat on GroupMe. Students will receive an email invitation from the Batten School Registrar to join this group in early summer. You can download the app onto your mobile device and create an account with your phone number or email address. This is a great opportunity to network with members of your incoming class.
  • Housing: There is no student housing on the Batten School & VIMS campus, and most students live in Gloucester Point, Williamsburg, Newport News, or in other surrounding communities. Rental housing is somewhat limited in the Gloucester Point area, but apartments in nearby Gloucester, Mathews, Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Newport News are more plentiful if one is willing to commute a short distance. Resources available to students that can help in finding housing and roommates include:
  • Transportation: It is important to keep in mind there is not currently transportation provided between W&M's main campus in Williamsburg and the Batten School & VIMS campus in Gloucester Point. Any form of public or third-party transport is extremely limited in the Gloucester Point area, so students should not plan to rely on such services. Most graduate students opt to have a car, bicycle, or make arrangements to carpool with fellow students who have vehicles.
  • Parking: Anyone who parks on the Batten School & VIMS campus or W&M campus is required to have a parking pass or decal. Students interested in parking on either campus can register their vehicle and purchase their pass from W&M Parking Services. Most students choose to purchase a "VIMS Only Decal" which does allow parking in the Kaplan Arena Lot or Plant Lot on the W&M main campus. Purchasing a parking pass is not required and you can purchase one at any time throughout the year.
