Bathymetry

About Bathymetry

Collecting bathymetry data, which describes the depth and shape of the seafloor with respect to an accurate reference elevation point (or datum), is essential for working towards sustainable coastal communities and advancing our scientific understanding of coastal ecosystems, including ocean dynamics, hurricane and storm surge forecasting, fishing resources, sediment transport, and other environmental changes.

Hōkūleʻa Sampling

The Center for Coastal Resources Management installed an Argo unit on the Hōkūle'a escort boat Hikianalia for collection of bathymetric data by a depth readings unit with automatic uploaded via Starlink. The resulting bathymetric data will be displayed on a dedicated dashboard and available to local coastal communities encountered during the voyage.
